Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of different communities. Many who've never known about it may mistake it for an island that is west-facing. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay was not long in the city. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid growth spurt her partners could no longer dance with her. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I reached the height of the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Some former dancers switch to acting and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school that pushed her in the right direction. The teacher suggested she try to get a role for school's annual production. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, Brugel's been in over 60 productions both big and small. The most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast during the season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
